QLD: Beattie rates his year 6.5 out of 10

BRISBANE, Dec 19 AAP - Queensland Premier Peter Beattie only rates his government's
performance in 2003 at 6.5 out of 10.

Mr Beattie said today 2003 was a "mixed year".

"I think generally it's been reasonably good," he told reporters.

"I'd probably give us a six and a half out of 10 - we could have done some things better."

In 2003, a number of crises have stalked the government.

Especially worrying with an election early next year were crises in foster care, hospitals
and housing while his ministers have been accused of bullying as well as rorting the ministerial
car.

Mr Beattie said he was pleased with his government's performance in education.

He said his government would not hide from making the hard decisions.

"On all these things we're going to face up to them head-on and deal with them," he said.
