Fed: Man to appear in court charged with Brinks driver murder

BRISBANE, April 16 AAP - A man will appear in court today charged with the murderof missing Brinks armoured van driver Matthew Kelly.
The 31-year-old man from Tumbi Umbi, on the NSW central coast, was to appear in theWyong Local Court after being charged by major crime squad detectives.
Mr Kelly was the driver of a van which was held up and hijacked by four masked gunmenin the southern Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank in March 1999.
The thieves escaped with $2.7 million, making it one of the largest armoured van robberiesin Australian history.
Police suspected Mr Kelly, of the Gold Coast, may have played an inside role in therobbery but they were never able to charge him.
He was last seen in September 2000.
Mr Kelly's abandoned car was found locked and with a steering-wheel clamp near Captain'sFlat, south of Queanbeyan, in late 2000.
Police began a search in rugged terrain between Queanbeyan and Cooma, believing hehad been killed and buried somewhere in the Snowy Mountains region.
His body was never found.
NSW police last night appealed for public help in locating several items belongingto Mr Kelly including a Presario 1200 Compaq laptop computer, a model not sold in Australia.
They are also searching for a set of golf clubs - Ping irons with a distinctive Mizunodriver with a gold titanium head.
