Vic: Brawl breaks out at wedding reception centre

MELBOURNE, Aug 31 AAP - A man has been stabbed in the leg during a brawl that broke
out among guests at a wedding reception centre in Melbourne overnight.

Police from Caulfield were called to the Matrioshka (Matrioshka) Russian Restaurant
and Reception Centre at Carnegie in Melbourne's south-east at about 1am (AEST).

About 15 people were involved in the brawl which started at the back of the centre
but ended up out the front, Sergeant Robert Dabonde told AAP.

After the crowd broke up and fled, police found a knife with blood on it and a trail
that led to a toilet where they found a man with a stab wound to the leg.

"The patrons were brawling towards the end of the night and it involved separate groups
including a wedding party and various other parties including birthday guests," Sgt Dabonde
said.

"A chap was stabbed in the leg and immediately taken to hospital.

"Police had to use capsicum spray with the crowd."

The man, 26, was not seriously injured and was taken to the Alfred Hospital for treatment.

Police will speak to him.
