NSW:NSW brothel boss in guilty plea

EDS: Reissuing, fixing spelling of Elliot

SYDNEY, Aug 4 AAP - A brothel boss has admitted organising the bashing and intimidation
of a rival, who was shot dead during the attack on the NSW north coast.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday, Daniel Clayton Scott, 36, pleaded guilty to
being an accessary before the fact to manslaughter, and accessary before the fact to assault
with the intent to rob while armed.

Radiographer and brothel owner Victor Elliot, 50, was shot dead by two former soldiers
in a bungled kidnap and extortion attempt in May 2000.

He was killed as he left the construction site of a legal brothel he was building at
Chinderah, near Tweed Heads.

Chris Maxwell, QC, for the crown, told the judge Scott was angry that Elliot's brothel
was only 300m from his own premises.

In November 2007, former soldier Mike Anthony Grupe was jailed for at least 14-and-a-half
years after pleading guilty to Mr Elliot's murder.

His accomplice in the shooting, former army colleague Dale Gary Utz, was killed in
2003 by Grupe, who was acquitted of his murder on the grounds of self-defence.

Scott's sentencing will be mentioned before Justice Peter Hidden in the Supreme Court
on August 13.
