NT: Widow says dead husband had black eye before death

The widow of a man who died in custody in Darwin 20 years ago says he'd incurred a
serious black eye in the days before his death.

DOUGLAS BRUCE SCOTT was found hanged in his cell in Darwin prison in July 1985.

A subsequent coronial inquest, police investigation and Royal Commission in Aboriginal
Deaths in Custody found he'd died by self-inflicted hanging.

However, his widow LETTY SCOTT is convinced her husband was murdered by prison guards,
and she's launched civil action in the Northern Territory Supreme Court.

Mrs SCOTT says when she visited her husband in prison in the days before he died he
had a serious eye injury and was crying.

Mrs SCOTT's testimony continues on Monday.
